Project Wildlife San Diego

The Mission of Project Wildlife is to improve quality of life for local wildlife in the community as the primary resource for animal rehabilitation and education.

Established in 1972, Project Wildlife is one of the largest nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organizations in the United States.

Project Wildlife performs over 12% of all wildlife rehabilitation in the state of California and boasts a release rate 8% higher than the national average.

Project Wildlife encourages sustainable solutions through resolution of wildlife conflicts, volunteerism, animal rehabilitation and conservation education.

Working within state and national regulations, Project Wildlife staff and volunteers care for nearly 10,000 animals from more than 320 different species annually.

Project Wildlife is funded entirely by individual donations and community foundations.

Project Wildlife Rehabilitation

Project Wildlife rescues and rehabilitates injured, orphaned and sick wildlife and releases animals back into natural habitats. The public serves as the organization’s eyes and ears, alerting Project Wildlife of wildlife in need and bringing animals to Project Wildlife Triage Centers.

After triage care, animals are placed with highly trained satellite care volunteers until release. Wildlife patients may spend anywhere from one to 12 weeks or more in rehabilitation.

Project Wildlife Education

Utilizing their Animal Ambassadors, Project Wildlife provides the San Diego community with access to a variety of conservation education programs. With a focus on local wildlife, Project Wildlife’s interactive programs offer exciting learning opportunities for people of all ages.

In addition to the general education, Project Wildlife provides volunteers, members and the public with access to a catalog of in-depth wildlife care, rescue and rehabilitation related workshops and training programs.

Project Wildlife Volunteers

Project Wildlife’s core of 500-plus dedicated volunteers donate more than 75,000 hours of service each year and assist in every aspect of Project Wildlife’s day-to-day operations. In fact, it is only through the generosity of volunteers the Project Wildlife is able to provide its essential programs and services to the community.

Through continuing volunteer education workshops and extensive hands-on training, Project Wildlife insures that wildlife patients receive high quality care and rehabilitation.
